Metal Stamping has been used for hundreds of years. Stamping was invented to produce many parts that match each other unlike cutting or carving parts out of a material were each part was unique in the early stages of technology. Just like a cookie cutter produces the same shape every time stamping provides the same benefit.  Metal Stamping is a cost effective method of mass producing components with close tolerances at a low cost. During World War 1 and World War 2 metal stamping was heavily relied upon to mass produce weapon components. Machine gun assemblies use a great number of stamped metal parts belt clips, components of the gun action, magazines ammunition cartridges, and receivers.
